Create your own 2x2 Boards from a 2x4

Every time I go into the store looking for a decent 2x2 board, it's always a struggle. Then I started to create my 2x2's using 2x4's, and it's been amazing. I've saved quite a bit of time in the store because I don't have to look through the whole collection of deformed boards to find a good one. Check out this how-to guide on creating 2x2's to save yourself some time in the future.

It's a simple process that requires two tools. You can do this hack with a miter saw or circular saw and a table saw. I always use the miter saw to break down the 2x4 to the size I need (it also makes it easier to run through the table saw too).

  1. You can set your table saw fence to cut off the rounded edge on the 2x4. This way, you can get a flat surface to use on the next part.

  2. You'll want to set your fence at 1.5 inches (because 2x2's are really 1.5x1.5's) and reference the flat surface side from the previous cut. Run the board through and you'll use your 1st straight 2x2.

  3. Repeat the same process, and you'll have another straight 2x2.

That's all there is to creating a 2x2 from a 2x4. It's straightforward and it can definitly be a time saver at the store looking for a decent board. Hope this guide is helpful and leave me a comment on how it worked out for you!
