Solar Accent Post Lights | Easy DIY Project

At night, our backyard was on the boring side of things. Right now, it’s just a place where nothing happens with no excitement at all. We need to make some changes and give the space signs of life. A simple project to begin with is adding some lighting to the area. One Sunday morning, we were at Costco and they had these solar lights on the end cap that were on sale for $29.99 (The regular price is $39.99) for a two-pack. Solar outdoor lights are a popular choice for illuminating outdoor spaces in an eco-friendly and cost-effective way. We spoke it over and decided it would be a pretty cool way to add something to the backyard. Best of all, they’re solar so we don’t have to do any extra work (I’m all about autotomy when possible). Solar lights offer the convenience of automatically turning on and off, making them a practical and energy-efficient lighting choice. Well, we’d have to change the battery out every once in a while but that’s not going to be very often. These lights harness the power of the sun during the day, converting solar energy into stored electricity that can be used to power the lights at night. We ended up getting four packs (eight lights total) to hang the lights up around our backyard.

The installation was very simple to hang up and I only need a drill as far as tools go. The lights came with all the necessary items to install the lights. To keep the installation nice and easy, I made a jig from a piece of scrap wood. This made installing the lights fast and stress-free. I made the jig to be a certain length from the top of the fence line around the backyard. I would drill two pilot holes using the jig. Using the screws that came in the package, I screwed into the fence far enough where I could hang the lights and that’s it! The lights were installed. I repeated the process for the lights and our backyard was looking a lot better.

It turned out awesome. It really gave our backyard a boost of energy once the sun went down. Not only did we improve the aesthetics of the outdoor space, but we also reduced our carbon footprint by using solar lights. It is amazing how a few lights can do so much to a space.
