Toward the end of the summer, we built a playhouse in our backyard for the kids. We told them we’d place the old one we removed and I kept my promise. It was my first time building a “house” and I found the experience quite enjoyable and the kids love it. I used all the knowledge I picked up from watching various youtube videos.
A few months prior, Home Depot had a 2’x4’ chalkboard on clearance for $2 and we picked it up and decided we could use it in the future. Well, that time has arrived, and we decided to add a chalkboard in their playhouse area for the girls to give their teaching sessions to their dolls.
Let’s get into this project! You can check out my video also.
It’s a simple DIY project. I just needed to make a frame for the chalkboard. For the frame, I bought 2 - 8” 1’x3’ boards. I mitered the ends at 45-degree angle and routed a groove for the chalkboard to sit in. This project takes a few hours to complete.
Materials:
2” x 4” Chalkboard or 2” x 4” ¼ plywood and chalkboard paint
2 - 1’ x 3’ x 8” boards
8 Screws
Steps:
Cut the 1’ x 3’ boards to length for the frame
Route the groove for the chalkboard to fit in on the backside of the 1’ x 3’ board
Dry Fit the chalkboard with the frame
Glue the frame together
Fill in the cracks with wood filler and sand the frame smooth
Paint/Saint the frame (if you want)
Glue and insert the chalkboard into the frame.
You can do it too but you have to start and give it a try. You might just surprise yourself!
